Meet the Composers/Open Dress for The Esoterics!

6 Oct

Each year The Esoterics’ Polyphonos competition commissions new works from three composers for a concert of new music. This year we are excited to premiere works from Joshua Shank, one of the country’s up and coming choral composers; Bernard Hughes whose works have been performed by the BBC Singers; and Shawn Crouch–a Dale Warland Singers Commission Award winner whose works have been performed by Chanticleer . We also are proud to invite Finnish composer Jaakko Mäntyjärvi for the West Coast premiere of Nine Sunset Watercolours.

MEET THE COMPOSERS is a unique opportunity to meet some of the leading choral composers of the 21st century. This concert is especially unique, as each piece is based a piece of visual art and is textless. The synthesis of music and visual art is sure to provide a memorable experience for you and your students, presenting different ways in which choral music can be used. As part of our education mission we invite students and educators for an hour long Q&A with the composers, followed by the dress rehearsal performance of VIVIDA.

Date: Friday, October 8th

Time: 6:00pm-9: 30pm

Location: Seattle Art Museum Sculpture Park Pavilion—2901 Western Avenue, Seattle WA 98121: http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/visit/osp/

We encourage students and educators to carpool to this event. Street parking is free after 6:00PM. If you or your students have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at sarah@theesoterics.org. We look forward to seeing you and your students for this unique opportunity.

Sincerely,

Sarah Marroquin
