The UW School of music is hosting a series of guest artist recitals this year, starting with amazing UW Alumna 37005and pianist Becky Billock! Come on over to Brechemin Auditorium this Saturday night for an amazing show, for only $10! Brechemin Auditorium is located on the main floor of the School of Music.

ARTIST BIO

Becky Billock is an active recital soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared as soloist with regional orchestras in Oregon and California and has performed solo and chamber recitals in numerous locations throughout the U.S., including several tours of Northwest cities, and appearances on the Seattle radio station Classical KING FM 98.1, the Pittsburgh radio station WQED 98.3FM, and American Public Media’s Performance Today.

Ms. Billock also performs, lectures and adjudicates frequently in the Pittsburgh area where she lives with her husband Jonathan Aldrich and her two young daughters, Sierra and Evelyn. She holds degrees from Walla Walla College (BA), University of Redlands (MA), and University of Washington (DMA), where she studied respectively with Leonard Richter, Louanne Long, and Craig Sheppard. Her dissertation focused on contemporary women composers. Ms. Billock received numerous awards and scholarships throughout her academic years, including a performance scholarship from the University of Washington, and the LeHigh Piano Scholarship and Performance Award from the University of Redlands.

Ms. Billock taught in the Piano Preparatory Division at Walla Walla College from 1993 to 1997, becoming the assistant director of the program in 1994. Her students won gold and silver medals at local competitions and festivals, including a solo performance with the Oregon East Symphony. While studying at University of Redlands she served on the faculty of the Redlands Community Music School. From 1998 to 2003 Ms. Billock taught privately in Seattle, Washington, where her students won numerous Musical Merit Awards through the Seattle Music Teachers Association. Ms. Billock currently maintains a thriving private studio in the Squirrel Hill area of Pittsburgh, PA.

Highlights of the 2009-2010 season include continued collaboration with cellist Adam Liu, several premieres of new compositions, and the production of Women Working–a recording of music by American women.
