Intern Position Description

TITLE: OLYMPIC SCULPTURE PARK INTERN (unpaid)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Olympic Sculpture Park Administration/PACCAR Pavilion

STAFF SUPERVISOR: Environmental Steward and Olympic Sculpture Park Gardener

PURPOSE AND GOALS: Under the supervision of the Environmental Steward and OSP
Gardener, the intern will contribute to environmental and landscaping projects at the Olympic
Sculpture Park. Tasks will support the Seattle Art Museum’s SAM Goes Green effort and
pesticide-free grounds maintenance at the park.

TIME: Flexible schedule: 3+ months time commitment, 12+ hours per week. May include some
evenings/weekends.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
• Assist in organizing environmentally-themed events
• Gather and tabulate data for carbon footprint reporting
• Create a plant guide and/or database
• Design educational materials for volunteers
• Complete hands-on gardening projects using pesticide-free techniques

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Interest in environmental issues
• Some knowledge of native plants preferred
• Excellent administrative/organizational skills
• Basic filing, typing and computer skills
• Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors
• Ability to communicate effectively to staff, volunteers and public
• Ability to ask for help and accept supervision and evaluation of your work
• Abide by the Standards for Museum Volunteers/Interns as outlined in the Volunteer/Intern
Packet

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Manual dexterity.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

EDUCATION:
• Working towards completing an AA, BA, or some form of higher education.
Demonstrated interest in environment and/or native plants and gardening.

TRAINING:
• General SAM orientation provided by Volunteer Department
• On-the-job training will be provided, as needed.
