“A [performance] of jubilation and humour. A sure success for Merlin the enchanter.” La Terrasse

Compagnie La Calebasse (com-pahn-NEE lah cah-leh-BAHSS) was founded by dancer-choreographer Merlin Nyakam in 2001. The company’s dancers hail from Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea, and France and their choreography is an exciting mix of African and Afro-contemporary stylesexuberant, earthy, and joyful. For their first UW World Series appearance, they will perform the work that launched the company, Recreation Primitive.

Did you know? La Calebasse founder Merlin Nyakam began dancing at the age of five and by age 16 was principal dancer for the Cameroon National Ballet.
