WACK field trip review!

14 Nov

I recently attended the School of Art field-trip to Vancouver, Canada to attend the WACK: Feminist Art Retrospective at the Vancouver Art Gallery. To say the WACK Exhibit was over-whelming would be an understatement. In what felt like hundreds of pieces of feminist work in all media imaginable the Vancouver Art Gallery managed quite successfully to organize the prolific exhibit into palatable sections, from issues of body and space to issues of spirituality and place. The work had some famous artists that most everyone knows about, Yoko Ono and Judy Chicago to name a few and lesser-known artists whose work was occasionally just as powerful. While the day trip did not give nearly enough time to digest all the work presented, to go and see some of Louise Bourgeois work in person is more than worth the wait at the border. To see some of the work go to http://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/  or finally plan that trip north and see it for yourself. The show ends January 11, 2009.– Mirit Markowitz
