UW’s own Raj Bhat to lecture at SIFF screening

4 Feb

Following the 2:00pm screening of The Rape of Europa (see below) on Saturday, February 9, UW Art Historian Raj Bhat will host a discussion about looted art and cultural properties, adding more context to the film. This educational event was created in conjunction with Ballard High School’s AP European History Class. This event is open to the public and is included in the matinee ticket price of $7.

The Rape of Europa tells the epic story of the systematic theft, deliberate destruction and miraculous survival of Europe’s art treasures during the Third Reich and the Second World War. The film begins and ends with the story of artist Gustav Klimt’s famed Gold Portrait, stolen from Viennese Jews in 1938 and now the most expensive painting ever sold.

Come join Professor Bhat at this near-tragic, historically fascinating film and lecture presentation.

SIFF Cinema is located at 321 Mercer Street at 3rd Avenue (lower Queen Anne), McCaw Hall, in the heart of Seattle Center’s Theatre District.
